that is just a weak point in these cranks. There is not much material at that particular joint in the crank.
If you think about the heavy wieght of z32, coupled with sticky tires on a sticky track at full load (or a burnout where the tires are starting to catch grip in a pounding fashion), i I can definately see why the crank would break with that little material at that joint.
Shure the escort car ran a stock crank with no issues, but that car was extremely light compared to a full weight z32. That had to be much less force on that crank to get the car moving.
